Toyota - Number One Through Optimistic Products With Style

Toyota will be Number One with an Extra Pinch of Style and a Dash of Color and Optimism mixed in.

TOYOTA AND AMERICA ARE AT A CROSSROADS. The U.S. economy is in one of its worst hours at the moment. Almost 20% of the work force are unable to find full-time employment to support themselves. There is a shortage of private sector jobs and far too many people are employed by the government. Private sector jobs fuel the economy where government jobs produce nothing. The government prints money and pays employees. That adds to government debt way into the trillions, only to end up in the hands of citizens as major tax burden. Americans are unable to buy and sell homes so the housing market is almost dysfunctional. the American system can over come all of this. A change in government officials and policies in the coming 24 months can put America on the road to restoration of vitality and optimism.

WE'VE BEEN HERE BEFORE. When that happens we believe that American car buyers will be looking for not only the expected reliability, but also bright fresh dynamic styling cues that emote that vitality and optimism. This is not unlike what happened in the early 1950's after World War II. During those years after the war vitality and optimism flourished, particularly by the mid 1950's. Looking back, there appears to have been a dramatic change that took place between 1954 and 1955. It's like the world suddenly changed from black and white visually to technicolor. This was distinctively reflected with a change in car styling and colors between 1954 and 1955 through 1960. If you go to Google images and enter 1955 cars into the search box, an instant array of stamp sized images of bright colored optimistically styled automobiles will appear.

COLOR AND STYLE REFLECT OUR MOODS. Color plays a strong role indicating the type of mood that we are in. A marketing research firm recently asked nearly 1,900 Americans about their attitudes toward their own lives at several points over the course of a year. The firm also asked each respondent the color of the car they drive most often, which allowed the researchers to develop a kind of color-confidence index. According to the study, the color of a car says a lot about the person driving it. People who drive Emerald Green automobiles have the most positive attitude about the course of their own lives. Dark Blue and Silver are other colors chosen by upbeat optimistic people. Red can suggest an aggressive, high-speed personality, while Yellow, theoretically, is for folks with sunny dispositions.

WE'RE BACK TO THE FUTURE. Going back to 1955, there were plenty of green, red, blue, yellow, and other bright colored cars often two-toned with white, a stable color providing balance. We have a similar stage being set for the near future and Toyota has a tremendous opportunity here. Looking around at new cars being introduced, there are many with exciting design elements. Toyota needs to pick up on this quickly. At the moment, the Toyota line-up is showing some age compared to many fresh new designs from other manufacturers. Fresh design definitely needs to be part of the new Toyota equation.

TOYOTA MUST BE READY TO ROLL OUT OPTIMISTIC AUTOMOBILES. We found a recent Toyota design sketch online for a two door coupe. We know that two door cars are not the big sellers at this time. But, the design cues on this model are striking and quite optimistic compared to current Toyota design elements. We'd like to see that car, I don't know that we will. Toyota's opportunity to be Number One over the next couple of years is not only to bring to us the expected reliability but to also bring to us brighter fresher designs and colors that represent an optimism America needs and is ready for.

Toyota Will be Number One With An Added Pinch Of Style And An Extra Dash Of Color and Optimism!

These are our thoughts and observations at a critical point for both Toyota and America.

A Senior Citizen's Guide to Driving Safely

Aging is a part of life. It is inevitable that as we age, we experience bodily changes that make things that were once so easy for us, a little bit harder. Driving is one of the skills where we need to make some adjustments as we age. However, by being aware of these changes and responding appropriately to them through safe driving practices, we can be confident that we will remain safe drivers even when we are well past our 60s. Here are some of the most important changes in your body that affect your driving abilities.

  • Stiff Joints
  • Vision Problems
  • Hearing Impairment
  • Slow Reaction Times

Stiff joints can lead to difficulty in foot and pedal movement and in some cases, making it hard to turn your head to look behind you, harder turn the steering wheel and push the brakes. If you feel these things, see your doctor and ask for any medication he/she can give you to ease your muscle and joint pains. In this condition, it would surely be advantageous if you drive a car with automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes so that you won't have to exert much physical effort. Try to always exercise to keep your body strong and flexible.

There are several vision problems associated with age such as cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration are associated with aging. Even if you don't have these specific eye diseases, it is inevitable that your eyesight will decline and you'll have trouble seeing things at night, you may find glare extra annoying and traffic signs may not be recognized so quickly.

The first way to counteract these vision problems is to have your eyes checked regularly. Ask your doctor if you have an eye disease such as cataract. It can be remedied by surgery. Also, make sure your prescription glasses are correct and updated and don't fail to wear them when driving. Refrain from driving at night if it's hard for you to see things in the dark.

Aging also causes hearing problems to arise. If this happens, you may not be able to discern horns, sirens and noises easily. Sounds are warnings and if you don't get them quickly, you may be putting yourself and your passengers in danger.

First, have your hearing checked on a regular basis. If you have any hearing difficulties, they can readily be treated by your doctor. It may also help if you use a hearing aid especially when driving. Refrain from playing loud music and ask your passengers to tone down their voices so that you won't be distracted from unnecessary noises.

Finally, when you age, your reaction time becomes slower, you get easily confused and distracted, and your attention span becomes shorter.

Some adjustments must be made to your usual driving practices to cope up with these changes. First, make sure there is adequate space between you and the car in front. If you ever need to stop in a while, start braking early on. As much as possible, avoid driving in place where traffic is high.

Soon after cars were produced in mass early in the 20th century, they began to change the foundations of living. These days we used automobiles for our daily transportation and it is no doubt one of most used thing in our era. Thru automobiles we can travel great distances in such small amount of time. They were also developed for us to travel over primitive roads that are unable to reach by just walking. Indeed the automobile had change the way we lived. We can now enjoy travelling and going to work at such ease. But having an automobile is also a mixed blessing since they cause heavy traffic and accidents on the road.

One of the parts of an automobile that is of importance is the tires. Automobiles basically use air-filled tires. In the past the tires had separate inner tubes to hold air. Today's tires are tubeless, sealed airtight to the wheel rim at the bead. Tires may be bias type, belted bias, or belted radial. Bias tires are made of two to four, or even more layers of rayon. nylon, polyester, or other synthetic cords. Belted bias tires are made the same way as bias tires but have belts of synthetic or fine steel wire just beneath the thread. While the belted radial has layers of rubber-coated synthetic cords that are laid across the tire from bead to bead. So if you are planning to change your tires that would provide your car of its better performance then you should definitely search for a place that would offer the best of tires. The best place on where to buy tires depends on the each consumer motivation whether you are concerned on price or on convenience.

If you are concerned on the price then you can shop online for the cheapest tires to save money. Tire Rack for example has the low shipping charges and competitive prices on its products. So if you are interested on buying tires online then Tire Rack is best online store there is when it comes to tires. You can visit their website and see for yourself. But if you are not a mail-order type or an online buyer then you can go to any of your local stores to buy tires. You can go to Warehouse clubs such as Costco or Sam's Club you can also go to any Wal-Mart stores found at your place.

Anti-Corrosion and Corrosion Prevention

When exposed to the elements in the environment, metal structures will suffer deterioration in structural strength. Thus, aside from the cost savings, corrosion can result in public and industrial safety issues. Fundamental understanding of these phenomenon is very crucial to the assessment of the most appropriate means of corrosion prevention strategy.

Corrosion prevention is aimed at lengthening the lifespan of metal structures and other concrete surface materials.

Nowadays, we are beginning to depend more and more on light equipment such as computers, high energy batteries and sophisticated telecommunication equipments. While these are less subject to serious rusting, they are very sensitive to microscopic-level corrosion. The requirements for materials, processes, techniques, and tasks required to integrate an effective corrosion prevention and control program are to be implemented during all its phases are all vital to learn.

For example, materials used in aerospace, power generation and even in car engines have to resist sustained periods at high temperature in which they may be exposed to an atmosphere containing potentially highly corrosive products of combustion. Coatings of zinc achieve corrosion prevention of the protected metal by the formation of a physical obstruction, and by functioning as an anode if this obstruction is destroyed. On exposure of zinc to the atmosphere, zinc oxide is formed by the reaction of zinc with oxygen that further reacts with molecules of water in the air to form zinc hydroxide.

Pitting corrosion is the localized corrosion of a metal surface confined to a point or small area, which takes the form of cavities. It is one of the most damaging forms of corrosion.

On the other hand, most corrosion prevention technology today can provide the level of protection required for in demand industries. Protected surface areas can last indefinitely but exposed surfaces will typically last 6 months or so.

The Corrosion Prevention Solution

In corrosion prevention applications, the controlled space is maintained at a specific relative humidity and temperature so that the products or material in the controlled space cannot absorb moisture from the surrounding atmosphere.

For applications on plain steel, maximum corrosion prevention is assured if the surfaces are free from corrosive materials, such as chlorinated and sulfonated cutting oils, coolants, lubricants, and drawing compounds. A variety of chemical treatments and coatings on the fasteners as well as barriers between the dissimilar metals may be evaluated for corrosion prevention between the aluminum and cold rolled or galvanized steel.

There are protective barrier products including water-, oil-, or solvent-based and can form many types of protection surfaces. By combining these products one may achieve a very effective solution of the corrosion protection of a material and its package. Extensive product range is suitable for use in a wide range highly corrosive environments with operating temperatures ranging from sub-zero to 250C.

In the case of chromate coatings, it were never used in potable water systems and have been phased out in industrial applications. In addition to increasing the service life of existing pipe infrastructure, the anti-corrosion properties of the coatings will enable the transport of water sources that are high in corrosive agents for non-potable applications. Like hydrazine, the use of chromate to protect metal surfaces has been limited and it is banned from some products.

Do remember that certain solutions are insoluble that they will deposit as a passive layer on the metal surface and may reduce the rate of corrosion as in the case of stainless steels.

The quantity of energy then strongly depends on a host of variables, including the types of ions in a solution and their concentrations, and the number of electrons present at the metal's surface. In turn, corrosion processes cause electrochemical changes, meaning that they strongly affect all of these variables.

There are actually instances that a corrosion protection treatment can make the problem of corrosion worse in the long run! Most corrosion protection hardens and eventually cracks from vehicle flex and chips from abrasion. The compromised surface creates a breeding place for corrosion, accelerating the rusting process underneath the so-called "corrosion prevention".

When working with a technical staff on a corrosion prevention solution, it is very important to understand the environment in which the component is working in. Material engineers must use that information to engineer a coating solution specific to that component needs.

Simple Notes to Prevent Corrosion

One of the best ways to stay away from the impact of corrosion is to prevent rust.

Simply removing an object away from water and keeping an area free from moisture will keep rusting at bay.

Look for the latest products. Hardware stores often sell drying agents that keep moisture an area moisture-free.

You may have noticed packets of silica gel with the notice "don't eat" on them in items that you've purchased. These prevent moisture accumulation, which preserves the life of the item.

There are humidity-detector cards that can be placed in an area to monitor humidity levels.

Use a metal that is thick enough to maintain structure as rust may form on its surface.

Apply a sealing agent, such as a wax-based product or paint. This is to keep moisture from infecting the metal.

Rust Bullet has been awarded an unprecedented Two Patents from the United States Patent & Trademark Office. Never before has the U.S.P.T.O. issued Two Patents for Two New Technologies to One Rust/Corrosion Control Product.

Simple Car Repairs You Can Do Yourself

Modern cars can be a lot harder to fix than the older models. When you buy a car purchased in the last few years, you can run in to problem that you may not be capable of fixing yourself. For example, a lot of new cars now have high tech computers which can control a number of things from the fuel management to the level of wear on a brake pad. If you have an older car though, there is a greater chance that you can make the repair yourself.

When your car is acting up and not running right, many people bring the car to the shop to get fixed. Even when you are replacing a small part, you are getting charged for the part and the labor of the shop. The shop rate is something that people do not figure into the bill when they are trying to get their car repair so it costs more than you figured. Many of these simple car repairs can be done by yourself to save you money. If you are looking to save money on car repairs, here are a few things that you can do yourself.

Brakes and rotors are a couple of things that you can replace yourself. When you are trying to compare the parts you need to the shop rate, it is better to do this job yourself. Depending on the car your driving, the brakes and rotors can cost about £12 a piece. To do the complete job for the front end of your car, it will cost around £75 in parts and takes about 30 minutes a side. When you go to the shop to get the brakes done, it could run you about £190 for parts and labor. That is a great way to save money by doing the brake job yourself.

Another thing that you can do yourself when you are trying to fix your car is the belts. Changing the main fan belt in front of the motor can cost anywhere from £15 to £70 depending on the type of car you are purchasing the belt for. You have to figure in the cost of the part as well as the shop rate when figuring out how much money you could be spending. Car repairs are not cheap but you can lower the cost by replacing some of the parts yourself. Consider what it is going to take to change the part and then decide if it is cheaper for you to replace the part yourself or have a shop do it for you.

What Are The Best Cars for Dogs?

That's a dog-gone good question. Did you know that 47 million families own at least one dog?

Dogs are more than pets, they are family members. Knowing this, making sure that your canine family member is safe and comfortable is something to consider when purchasing your next vehicle. Forty seven percent of families think of their pooch when buying a car.

With all the different makes and models of vehicles out there, how do you know which is best suited for your furry friend?

Here are the best makes and models that get a Five Paw Rating.

But first, here are some general tips to think about if your dog is a frequent traveler:

• Be sure that there is plenty of airflow directed toward the area the dog will be sitting. Are there vents near that spot so you are not simply relying on open windows?

• Make sure the doors have dog, I mean child safety locks.

• Be sure the windows have a restriction on the level they will open to prevent the dog from being able to easily jump from the windows.

• A vehicle with a sun-roof is another good option providing plenty of that "wind-in-the-hair" feeling all dogs love without getting rocks, sand and debris into your dog's eyes.

• Make sure the dog can easily jump into and out of the vehicle, judge this according to the dog's size.

• Think of the fabric, make sure it will be easy to clean and remove unwanted dog hair.

• Be sure there is enough cargo-room to carry the dog, crate, dog food, dog dishes and toys.

Some specific Five Paw Rated models to check into are:

• Dodge Caravan with its second row removable seats and 25 miles per gallon highway, starting at $23,995.00 MRSP.

• Volvo XC90 Crossover with its seven person seating capacity, starting at $38,400.00 MRSP

• Subaru Outback with its spacious interior and under the floor storage, starting at $23,195.00 MRSP.

• Subaru Forester with its 60-40 rear fold down seats and under the floor storage, starting at $20,495.00 MRSP.

• Honda CR-V, which seats 5 and has rear seat air vents, starting at $21,895.00 MRSP.

• Honda Element with its wide opening cargo doors and wipe down utility floors, starting at $20,825.00 MRSP.

• Kia Soul with its wide wheel base for more interior room and a smooth ride, starting at under $14,000.00 MRSP.

• Nissan Cube with its tiered rear seats and 31 miles to the gallon highway, starting at $14,740.00 MRSP.

• Range Rover Sport with its elevated cockpit and foot well lamps, starting at $60,495.00 MRSP.

This list will give you a better idea of what to look for when purchasing your next vehicle and it helps to answer the dog-gone good question of which car is best for dogs.

Dogs love to ride whether it is a trip to the post office, a weekend trip or a family vacation so make sure your canine friend is happy, safe and comfortable.

Doctors and Auto Mechanics

Depending on the circumstances the order of the title could be switched to Auto Mechanics and Doctors. To find a good mechanic in many ways can be a preventive health measure as much as seeing a doctor. Especially when you find and honest and caring mechanic. They can help lower your blood pressure, your stress level, decrease anxiety, and contribute to a more positive mood.

Over the years I've had a few good mechanics. I've had more personal dealings with them than doctors I might add. I've seen my doctor on a regular basis, my wife sees to that, but I don't really know the guy..

As far as mechanics go I've also fought with the big time car dealer mentality. They have high prices due to overhead and less than personal care because of the size of the operation. I have at times been met with out right hostility from employees of the dealership. Contrast that with the rare but not totally non-existent good honest car mechanic. Good in that he knows what he's doing and honest in that he only charges for what he did. I once took an old car of mine to this good mechanic, who's since passed away, he looked the car over and gave me a diagnosis of the problem. I didn't need to fix it right away. I asked him how much I owed him. He responded with disdain, "you don't owe me anything cause I didn't do anything". How's that for a good car mechanic. An old high school class mate of mine, who just passed away, I'm not that old by the way, was an excellent mechanic. He could have you rev the engine and tell you what the problem was. If the car wasn't running he could diagnose it from what it was doing while it was running. Where have all the good mechanics gone?

A different experience I had was with a company that specialized in break service. I had taken my car there for 10 years or so and the guy, evidently a manger, was always fair and up front with me. He could be gruff if he thought it was necessary but he was always honest. That's what kept me coming back for all those years. This last time I took my car in during the bottom of the fall out in this economic down turn. The owner was there that day. He had my car inspected and told me I needed a brake job like now and I could drive the car at my own peril. I didn't have $400 for a break job right then and there. So I switched cars with my wife, this was the car she drove. I drove that car so if any thing happened it would be on me. I'm unfortunately experienced in driving clunkers.

As soon as I had the money I took the car to a different shop to see if I could get the job done cheaper. The owner told me that I had plenty of ware left on the brake shoes and rotors. He said that he would gladly do the brake job for me but I didn't really need it. From the time the first guy told me that I needed brakes ASAP until now has been about 18 months. The car is just fine, thank you very much. I drive it from time to time make sure that I don't hear or detect the need for the brake job. Who do you think I should take the car to when it does need that brake job? That was a rhetorical question. You and me both know I'm going to take it the honest guy. The guy that had me as a loyal customer for 10 or more years lost me because of his desperation. I won' t say he was greedy because I don't know the guy. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I do know that the economy at the time had just fallen off the cliff and was almost at the bottom. So I think he was just desperate.

Moral of story: Don't get too relaxed in your dealings with any company. Many times it's the person more so than the company that makes the difference. For business owners, decisions made of desperation may lose more money than you realize.

Where have all the good mechanics gone?

Dents happen. It's a fact of life. It is actually amazing our cars don't collect more dents and dings than they do. What with hail storms, runaway shopping carts, kids toys and all the other wonderful obstacles out there you would think our cars would look be dented all the time. With the recent hailstorms that have plagued the area, you may wake up one morning to find your car looks like a golf ball. These tiny dents pepper your hood, trunk and roof and can just take the wind out of your sails when you see them.

When and if your vehicle does take a dent, you should consider paintless dent repair as an option. It will almost certainly save you both time and money over traditional dent repair. Most repairs can be done in a single day and the cost is a fraction of what you would pay if you decided to take the car to a body shop.

If you are not familiar with PDR, it is basically a simple way to repair minor dings and dents in your vehicle without having to repaint. It takes a skilled hand and the right equipment, but when done properly it is impossible to see the damage once completed.

The trained technician will need to be able to gain access to the dent from behind, so certain areas of your car will not be available for the procedure. Also, if the paint is broken from the dent, needless to say, paintless repair will not be an option.

The technician uses a variety of specialized tools to reshape, prod and press the metal back into shape, thus removing the damage. You will be amazed at the damage that can be removed from the process. Larger dents take time, but as long as the paint is intact, paintless dent repair is an option. It takes patience and a steady hand, but it can be done.

PDR is a real advancement in the science of auto body and collision repair. It is a time saver and a money saver and should definitely be explored as a serious option if you have dents.
You should consider PDR if...

• The dent is in an accessible area for the technician to work
• There is no paint damage created from the dent
• There is no crease in the dent
• You want to save a lot of money over traditional body work

The technicians at Precision Dent Repair are specialists at making your car look like new again!

Why Fix That Chipped or Cracked Windshield?

A windshield repair is an environmentally sound decision because windshield glass cannot be recycled. The law is designed to protect us from the dangers of driving with a chipped or cracked windshield. The windshield keeps us safe from flying debris and must have structural integrity.A chipped windshield could crack out at any time causing dangerous sun glare and impairing your vision. An automobile glass repair technician can help you when the unfortunate windshield crack happens at a lower cost than replacing your windshield.

Modern automobile construction techniques make the windshield and the windshields adhesion to the car or truck as part of the structural integrity. The integrity requires that all associated components are in good working order, including the windshield. When the windshield cracked the structural integrity of the automobile may be impaired and so is your safety. Auto glass can keep us safe from flying debris while driving on or off-road and in an accident the auto windshield can help prevent ejection from the vehicle.

Laws designed to protect us from the dangers of a cracked windshield are in place in most states, and it is against the law to drive an automobile in California with a cracked or chipped windshield. Concerns of being in danger or trouble can be avoided by repairing that chipped or cracked windshield before cracking out occurs. Ninety eight percent of all cracked out windshields could have been prevented if repairs had been quickly done. Repairing your windshield allows you to keep original equipment manufactured glass and seal, and a quality repair will also return the integrity to the automobile windshield.

Other dangers of driving with a chipped windshield are the fact it could crack out at any time causing dangerous sun glare which in turn could cause your vision to be severely impaired. The sun glare caused by the cracked windshield can also be harmful to your eyes, to the point of temporary blindness. Other things that happen are fire caused by the metal or copper strips which are in between the two layers of glass used to defrost the window. When the windshield cracked water can enter and cause a short and this in turn causes the fire.Improper re-installation of the windshield can also cause these same problems.

Automobile glass can protect you when the unfortunate happens, especially if you are in a severe enough accident where the air bags deployed to protect you and your passengers. When an air bag is deployed, it must fill quickly and this must happen fast enough to protect everyone. To do this fast enough controlled explosives are used, to fill the airbags quickly. The structural integrity of the windshield is jeopardized when the windshield is chipped or cracked, it may not withstand this explosive pressure and pop out.

Windshield repair is the environmentally sound thing to do, as windshield glass cannot be recycled. Repairing automobile glass keeps this type of debris out of our landfills. Paying for a windshield chip repair is much less expensive and much more environmentally friendly than waiting, watching the windshield crack completely and then having to get a windshield replacement.

Windshield repair is covered by some insurance companies and is free to the to the customer, others will want you to pay your deductible first. While most chip repairs smaller than a quarter can be repaired by mobile windshield repair technicians for under fifty dollars, cracks less than six inches usually run under a hundred dollars. If you don't have a zero deductible insurance plan it probably will be less expensive to just pay for the cost of the repair. Make sure you find a technician that guarantees against break out from the repaired areas.

Mark is in the mobile windshield repair business and gives advise on how to save yourself some time, trouble and money. Come read more about mobile windshield chip repair.

Bright and Reliable Police Dash Lights For Emergencies

There is a reason why police dash lights should be bright. Those who need help and are in some sort of trouble should be able to spot these vehicles from a distance irrespective of whether it is an isolated terrain, a highway, or a crowded city center. The dash lights have been designed to ensure two functions. Firstly, they are bright and dazzling, and attract everyone's attention around. The flash patterns ensure that these lights mounted on the dash tops of cop vehicles cannot be missed by anyone. Spotting a police van provides citizens with a sense of security and the feeling of being protected, which adds to their faith in the establishment. It also instills fear in the hearts of those planning to commit an offense.

Police dash lights are ideal for emergency lighting as well as for mounting on front dashboards. Clear red or white lights can be turned on and off with a cigarette outlet switch. The entire kit is highly portable, lightweight and inexpensive. Alternating red and blue lights on top of cop vans is a very common sight. Aided by flash patterns of varying pulses, sometimes as high as 20 or 30 flashes per second, ensures that these dash lights aren't easily missed by anyone, especially when ably complemented by high-pitched sirens. Visor LED lights are also compact and offer dazzling brilliance especially required in dark avenues for police vehicles which are on patrol duty.

Police dash lights also come with a set of extra mirror beams specially designed for some kinds of SUVs and cop vans. These offer unobstructed and intense warning lights that prove highly efficient in haze and rain. One can also find slim deck lights that come with suction cups that swivels and can be adjusted depending on the requirement. Some of these dash lights are constructed of 3rd generation LEDs and are highly efficient. The dash lights and deck lights can be synchronized too as the flash patterns can be controlled with the help of a compact control box that is usually provided with the kit. The sturdy and lightweight dash lights are even more resilient than metal and their structural resilience extends to all kinds of harsh weather conditions and shocks.

Designed for at least 100,000 hours of operation, the police dash lights, made of assemblies of LED arrays come with dozens of flashing patterns arranged in the same unit. The kit usually includes a cigar plug switch for ease of operation, a flash pattern control mechanism and cord which is 8 - 12 feet long. These lights are also provided with swivel and bail brackets with suction cups and a polycarbonate hood that can be snapped on for extra protection. This hood with dual screws also ensures that the flashback doesn't affect the driver and leaves him undisturbed while driving. The outer lenses are also known for the fact that while they are brilliant when switched on, they can be mounted on stealth vans too and cannot be detected when they are turned off.

Shopping for Affordable 4 Wheel Drive Cars: Pre-Owned Audi Models

The amount of power you can get from your vehicles engine to the ground can be the limiting factor in how well your car performs on the road in slippery conditions. Owners of 4 wheel drive cars can attest to their superiority compared to the more common front wheel drive models usually found on American roadways. When it comes to maximum traction in less than ideal conditions it's hard to beat a well engineered all wheel drive system like those found in Audi or Subaru cars.

Thankfully for those who live in regions given to inclement weather their has been a major expansion in the number and quality of all wheel drive models of all types in the model lineups of many auto makers. Where as four wheel drive systems in the past required more bulky hardware which added inefficiencies by default, modern 4x4 systems are typically nearly as adept at squeezing the maximum out of every gallon of fuel at their two wheel drive counterparts. Of course there is usually still a price premium to contend with if you are looking to buy an all wheel drive model.

Audi is considered a pioneer in the AWD vehicle market and has included their Quattro drive system on many models since the 1980s. If you are in the market for a good used all wheel drive vehicle it would probably be worth your time to check out the Audi lineup to see what might fit your needs.

Probably their most popular models are the A4 and A6 sedans and you can find any number of these cars for affordable prices in the pre-owned market. If you are looking for a small, fuel-efficient car that can get you around in slick winter conditions and maintain maximum traction on wet roads the A4 would be a great place to start. To pick a model year as an example let's look at the 2002 model A4. It features a turbocharged 1.8 liter engine that puts out 170 horsepower. Not earth shaking, but nice for a small car especially since the torque curve starts low at just under 2000 rotations per minute. Of course the best thing is that this car is equipped with the Quattro AWD system and you can still expect to get over thirty miles per gallon during highway driving. According to KBB you can expect to get one of these 2002 models in great condition for around $8,000.

If you need more space than the A4 has or just want more power you could move up the Audi model lineup and look at the popular A6 which is also an all wheel drive model and comes with either a 220 HP 3.0 liter V6, 250 horsepower 2.7 liter turbo-charged V6 or a big 4.2 liter V8 that puts out 300 horsepower. Naturally the model for the fuel economy minded driver is the 3.0 liter V6 but if your primary focus is on the traction system any of the models will suit your needs. Although the V8 model may bring more you should be able to find a great 2002 model year A6 for under $9,000.

So there are your two suggestions to get you started in your 4 wheel drive car search. You can branch out and explore other models from other auto makers or you could even look into the full size Audi A8 or if your budget allows move up into more recent model years if they have features you would like and are willing to pay more for.

Something else you should keep in mind when shopping for 4 wheel drive cars is to check out the drive system like the CV joints and transfer cases for any evidence of excess wear. If you'd like to read more about 4 wheel drive vehicles you can do that right here: http://4wheeldrivecarsinfo.com/.

Soccer Mom's Guide to Audi SUVs

On its website, Audi proudly proclaims that "More people are leaving BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus for Audi than ever before." Is it the quiet luxury of this unique brand? Is it their incredible selection of body styles? Is it their superb handling? Is it their relatively low price in the luxury market? Or is it their rugged all-season tires, spacious cargo area, roomy seating for 5 to 7 passengers, 3 zone automatic climate control, and entertainment features? If you are a busy mother, Audi makes sense for your family. Here is your guide to great Audi SUVs.

Q5. Audi also calls this their "crossover" model, perhaps hoping to entice those who don't want to admit they are soccer moms quite yet. This is a great car, SUV, vehicle. Whatever you call it, the Q5 delivers with 22mpg combined fuel economy, seating for 5, 211hp, 2.0L turbocharged 4 cylinder engine, 12-way power front seats with 4-way power lumbar adjustment, LED taillights and turn signals, leather seating, and a starting price of just $35,600.

The Q5 is full of safety features, including quattro All-wheel Drive, superior brakes, Servotronic steering, and hill descent control. But for those moms who want performance with their SUV, the Q5 has them covered with a 5-link front suspension and trapezoidal-link rear suspension for smooth handling, Valvelift system for smooth power buildup and instant throttle response (not to mention better gas mileage), and Audi drive select so you can have greater control of your ride.

Being a soccer mom is very, very good when you have a Q5.

Q7. The Q7 ups the ante with seating for 7 and bumps up the power to a 280hp, 3.0L supercharged V6. Features include leather seating, heated 12-way power front seats, Audi's parking system, music integration, HomeLink remote transmitter, Bluetooth, LED taillights, and power tailgate. It is a bit less efficient than the Q5 with 18mpg combined, but the trade-off is greater power and a few more bells and whistles than you get with the Q5. If you have a larger family or need the extra seating, the Q7 is one of the few vehicles that will accommodate you. Starting at about $46,000, it is a good choice for families.

Audi pours as much luxury and style into its SUVs as it does into its smaller models. Soccer moms, rest at ease: you can have practicality, convenience, and a hot car.

Windshield Basics From Safety to Care

If you have been in an accident or have otherwise shattered/cracked your windshield in some way, the first thing to do is stay calm. There is a good chance that auto glass specialists will be able to fix your car up in no time, at little cost to you, if your insurance covers it. Here's a guide to everything you need to know about auto glass services, whether you are in a pickle at the moment or just want to know for future reference.

Vehicle Glass Service Repairs

First, it is important to make sure that you call your insurance company to have someone appraise the damage. Insurance companies do this because they need to know how much damage is done to the vehicle. If your windshield is cracked, they usually provide a certain amount of money toward getting it fixed over your deductible. However, if all of the glass in your car is shattered and there is additional damage from an accident or other incident, your car may be considered "totaled," which typically means that you will be able to buy a new vehicle.

If it turns out that you do need the glass repaired, shop around for a professional and reliable auto glass repair company. Doing some research online can help you find out which companies have been in business for a long time, if past customers have been satisfied with prices and if they do a good job. Be sure to choose a business with certified technicians to ensure professional-caliber repairs.

Many of the best companies offer mobile service, which means they will come to you and fix the windshield. You can often get a quote online to find out how much it costs, and it can take as little as one hour to drive away with your brand new windshield.

Auto Glass and Safety

One of the reasons why it's so important for you to hire trained technicians for the job is because the correct placement and adherence of your windshield is a safety concern. Many modern cars actually use the windshield to support the overall structure of the front of the car, which means that it can protect passengers against injury during collision, as well as during rollovers or air bag deployment. Certified technicians use special adhesives that dry quickly and keep your windshield perfectly in place.

Caring for Your Auto Glass

If you have a crack in your windshield, get it looked at by a professional. If your glass is foggy or hard to see through, consider changing the windshield wipers and frequently washing the glass. Making sure wiper fluid is full at all times is another easy step you can take toward having pristine glass and, thus, driving safely.

The first electronic wheel balance system was invented in 1945. Before this invention wheel balancing required the wheels to be removed from the vehicle. This method was very slow and open to error. With the invention of the electronic wheel balancer the procedure became not only quicker but also more reliable. The system worked by spinning the wheels at high speed while still on the vehicle and then analyzed by a technician to decide where the weights should be placed on the wheel. Today the wheel balancer is very technically advanced but it is also a procedure that you can carry out without the help of any technicians.

There are a number of items required before you can start balancing your tire. They are weights, permanent marker, cutters, racers tape, and a front wheel hub. When you have all the required items assembled then choose the first wheel that you want to balance. The wheel should be attached to the hub and slid onto the top of the balancer. That is the part that spins.

The top part of the balancer is then placed on the two rods and the wheel spun lightly. You need to ensure that there are no obstructions that will prevent the wheel from spinning freely. Do not stop the wheel from spinning but let it come to a halt on its own.

When the wheel has stopped use the permanent marker to mark the highest point. This is the wheels lightest point and is where the weight will be added. It is important to be very precise marking the spot where the weight will be attached.

Take a piece of the weight strip and tape it where the wheel has been marked. Without taping anything important, get as close to the hub as possible. When this has been done turn the wheel until the mark is at the 3:00 or 9:00 position.

Release the wheel and if the marked line goes toward the 6:00 position then you need less weight is required. Remove the weight and reapply a smaller piece of tape. If it goes to the 12:00 position then you need to add some more weight. Remove the weight and tape and put a larger piece of weight on the wheel.

The preceding two steps should be repeated until the wheel is balanced perfectly. When the mark is placed anywhere on the wheel and it does not move the wheel is balanced.

The Ranger DST 2420 wheel balancer is an accurate balancer that is known for its reliability. It uses Digital Sensor Technology to guarantee your wheel is perfectly balanced every time. It calculates the exact weight automatically ensuring that your wheels are totally vibration free. The DST 2420 wheel balancer will do all the calculations in six seconds.

The Ranger DST 2420 wheel balancer is a very reliable and simple to use balancer. The repeatability makes it one of the best of the middle price range balancers on the market today.

Breaking the Clavicle (Collar) Bone

Racing a motor bike is a high speed sport with many dangers; one of those dangers is always the problem of breaking a clavicle bone due to a high speed crash and the rider hitting the track surface. It's not very often that the rider has time to put an arm out in the hope it will break his fall.

Unlike most common breaks to the collar bone, when a racer breaks his clavicle this is more often due to the impact of the shoulder hitting the track at speed. This results in the clavicle suffering a number of breaks and fractures along its length.

What is a Broken Collar Bone?

There are 4 basic types of bone in the human body, long, short, irregular and flat. The collar bone is a flat bone and attaches at the Sternum and the Scapula. The Clavicle is one of the most frequently broken bones in the body. A broken Collar bone is an extremely common shoulder injury for Moto GP riders, World Super Bikes and most other forms of bike racing. A broken Collar bone usually occurs during a fall from the bike when the rider falls at speed when entering a corner or exiting a corner. More often than not this is due to the rider being thrown from his bike in what is called a High Side. The rider is thrown into the air or slammed onto the tarmac. The force transmitted through the shoulder is enough to cause the collar bone to break in many places.

What can you do to prevent a Broken Collar Bone?

It would be too easy to say "don't fall off" or "slow down" but the very nature of the sport is to be the first rider into the corner and the fastest out of it. Tyre technology has advanced very quickly over the past 10 years and with it the electrics that control sliding (Traction Control) and breaking forces (ABS). The one area that hasn't changed over the years is the protection offered to riders and very little improvements have been made to leathers compared to the advancements made in motor bike technology. The majority of all riders now wear chest and back protectors and air bags are being slowly introduced. When tyres do let go and high tech electrics fail, it all goes wrong very quickly and before the rider can react he is on the floor and more often than not it is usually a High Side that is the cause of the fall. As tyres improve and technology improves, corner speed is going to get faster, entry speed is going to improve and the riders will be carrying more speed through the corners.

There was an attempt to slow riders down in Moto GP by officials when they reduced the size of Moto GP engines and they went from 1000cc to 800cc, the problem with that is a smaller bike is quicker through the corners and most track records (fastest lap) have been broken this year. The decision has been made to go back to the 1000cc engines at the end of this year. Will this slow down Moto GP riders into corners and will it reduce the amount of broken clavicles that we have seen this year? Time will tell.

What should you do if you suffer a Broken Collar Bone?

The clavicle is an "S" shaped bone that connects the shoulder (Scapula) to the breastplate (sternum). The clavicle is very near the skin, and it can be seen and felt very easily in most people. The joint between the clavicle and the part of the shoulder blade called the acromioclavicular is known as the A/C joint. The joint between the sternum and the clavicle is known as the sternoclavicular or S/C joint. The clavicle is designed to support the shoulder, acting like a strut that helps to align the shoulder with the rest of the chest. It also acts as a fixing point for many of the muscles in the shoulder girdle such as the Trapezius, Deltoid and the Pectoralis major muscles. The clavicle is one of the bones that do not produce marrow in the human body.

After a high side incident and a broken clavicle are suspected a rider will always be referred to hospital for treatment and x-rays. The x-ray will show how the bone has been broken. The result of the x-ray determines what kind of treatment is best suited for the rider.

A break that does not have two ends of the bone out of alignment and overlapping would not normally need operating on and would be left to nature to take its natural course. The muscles of the shoulder girdle will massage the bone back into place along with muscle memory.

When a rider is thrown from his ride at any speed, the end result is the clavicle bone breaking or fracturing in a number of places. In recent months Collin Edwards broke his clavicle in 5 places, Cal Crutchlow broke his at Silverstone and Dani Pedrosa broke his in 4 places. For most riders at this level time is not an option and surgery is the only way ahead.

A clavicle bone will normally repair in about 8 to 12 weeks and should be in a sling or a figure 8 bandage during this time. With surgery this can be reduced to 4 weeks and a rider can be back in the saddle in less. Surgery is normally done when there is a shortening of the bone or displacement.

For whatever reason it is, doctors in the UK are reluctant to pin clavicle breaks. It is their belief that it causes problems in later years. Current research being conducted in the USA on this subject is not of this opinion. US doctors believe that this is out dated and clavicle bones should be repaired as soon as possible there is no need to be in pain for a period of 12 weeks or longer. A broken clavicle can be reset and pinned some 3-4 years later after the initial break took place.

Do People Treat You Differently Depending On What Car You Drive?

The type of car you drive has a huge impact on how others perceive you. For an example, I used to drive a 1992 economy car and I was constantly pulled over by the cops. However, now that I drive a new Mercedes Benz I have never been pulled over. Not one single time. My driving style has not changed whatsoever. Certain cars simply exude more respectability and status. Don't get me wrong, I have seen luxury cars pulled over before; it just hasn't happened to me yet.

I have also noticed that most individuals are not very knowledgeable about cars in general and will automatically assume that you are wealthy because you are driving a luxury car. This is a complete fallacy since all of the luxury brands have entry level vehicles that are very affordable and probably cost less than most SUV's. However, the majority of people don't think twice about someone SUV but will automatically assume you are wealthy just because you drive a Mercedes. There is a huge difference between a C-Class and S-Class.

I read about a recent study which stated that the type of car you drive doesn't lead to happiness because most people do not consciously think of what type of car they are driving all of the time. Personally, I am constantly aware of what type of car I am driving and I never forget. I always felt self-conscious driving a more modest car but I feel so much better about myself now that I drive a luxury car. Maybe I'm more self-aware than others but I never forget it.

Let's take a look at a few common stereotypes. People who drive luxury cars are generally perceived as snobby and status conscious. SUV drivers are usually thought of as adventurous, sporty and fun loving while anyone who drives a minivan is usually family oriented. Folks who drive high performance cars are usually considered aggressive and show-off's.

Want a nice car but don't want to spend a ton? Why not consider a used car?! Most regular people (if they aren't car fanatics) won't be able to tell the difference between a brand new car and a used car that is just a few years old. Used cars depreciate in value a lot less too and many have been reconditioned to be in great condition. There are many options available including used sedans, SUV's, used trucks and coupes. Visit a used car dealer in order to find the best deals.

All that matters is that you are happy with your own car. It doesn't matter if you drive a Chevy, Kia, Chevrolet, Buick, Honda or Ford.

The cost of petrol and diesel is or it seems to be constantly rising in the UK. Due to high taxes levied on fuel for motor vehicles and also the increasing cost of oil, (used to make petrol and diesel) the need to try and reduce costs when running your car are needed.

Many people are struggling because they are spending too much money on fuel in their car. Even though they have to travel back and forth to work, you still need to put fuel in your vehicle. Improving the fuel mileage in your car can be quite simple and easy to do yourself as long as you know what to do. When you are trying to get further in your vehicle, you need to consider a few things so that you car runs better and longer. Here are some things that will bring your car back to life and give you the fuel mileage you are looking to get every time you fill your tank.

Maintaining your engine is the first and the most important thing you can do when you are looking to improve your fuel mileage. One thing you can do for your engine is to make sure you are current on an oil change. There is sludge and other deposits that can build up in your engine if you don't change the oil on a regular basis. This will keep all the internal working and moving parts properly lubed and reduce friction internally in the engine. Basically, the engine is not going to work as hard if everything is lubed inside the engine.

Another thing that you can do for your engine is to change the spark plugs and plug wires. Some people don't realize that the spark that ignites the fuel in the cylinders is transferred through the spark plug wires to the spark plug. If there is a break in the wire, you are going to lose the spark and lose power. The total connection has to be there in order to get the most efficiency out of your vehicle. You can also change the distributor cap and rotor in the distributor to make sure you are getting the spark to the proper places to make your engine run better.

One final tip would be to use your cars fan rather than the air conditioning unit. Air con can decrease the fuel efficiency of your car drastically. If you can stick to either using the window or simple fan, then you should be able to save a few pounds a week by doing this.

Checking the Basics of Your Car

It does not matter what type of vehicle you are driving, there are some things that you need to check every time you get behind the wheel to drive. Basic maintenance of your vehicle is something that is going to prolong the life of your car. You need to be able to check all of the fluids and do a basic inspection on your car to make sure that it is in good running order. If you do not check on things, you could find yourself sitting on the side of the road waiting for someone to rescue you and your car. Here are some of the things that you need to look at before you start your car to make sure nothing is going to go cause you a problem while you drive.

One thing to check is the oil. If the oil is low, it can cause many problems for you and your engine. Without the right amount of oil in the engine, it is not getting proper lubrication to all the internal parts. This can lead to a spun bearing or a blown engine. Maintaining the proper oil level will ensure you that you are getting oil to all the necessary parts of the engine to keep it strong and running. Also filling the car with too much oil can also cause problems, it is very important to check the 'dip stick' when you are refilling your car with oil. It is best to only use a small amount in the beginning to make sure you are not going to overfill the oil. You will also need to know what type of engine oil to use - perhaps synthetic oil if you have a performance vehicle.

You also want to check the water or antifreeze level to make sure that the proper coolant is moving through the engine to keep it cool. Coolant is used to cool down the engine and give you heat during the winter months. If the fluid level is low then you could find yourself looking for a new engine for your car because it can overheat the heads. Once the heads overheat, water gets into the oil and starts putting water in the engine where it is not supposed to be.

Before you start driving your car, check the air pressure in the tires. The right amount of tire pressure can mean that you are staying on the road instead of the ditch. It can also increase your gas mileage.

Buy Here Pay Here Dealers and the Car Selection Process

For many used car buyers with poor credit or no credit at all, getting a quality used vehicle can be a challenge. High-end used car dealerships usually aren't willing to give a loan to someone with bad credit, which usually means the only options are paying cash for a junker or getting a vehicle through on the spot financing.

We've covered the how and why of on the spot financing in previous articles, but a topic we haven't covered yet is how you actually choose your vehicle from an on the spot financing dealer.

So, how exactly do you get a car through on the spot financing? Well, it doesn't exactly work in the way you've grown accustomed to. You can't just go to a lot and select any car you desire then expect to drive it home. Their car selection process, in a nutshell, is more or less based on your credit score and how flexible or inflexible your monthly budget is. Although on the spot financing dealerships give you a second chance, they're not going to let you get a car you can't realistically afford; that would be irresponsible and it would hurt you in the long run. Their goal is to get you driving again with a car that doesn't break your budget.

So if your credit score is low and your budget isn't ideal, you probably won't end up with a brand new, 2011 Mustang; it might be a more experienced vehicle. But the good news is that your monthly payments would be lower in this situation. The more flexible your budget is and the higher your credit score, the nicer and newer your car will be. But don't forget, the nicer and newer your car, the higher your monthly payments will be as well.

On the spot financing dealers indeed want to help you. Which is why their processes for approval, financing and car selection can at times seem cumbersome, but it's only set up that way so they can help you to the best of their abilities. If they were to approve you for a 2011 Mustang, and you could only afford $100 a month for payments, you could get into some serious trouble, further your debt, and damage your credit even more. So keep this in mind when you go to an on the spot financing dealer. Be somewhat wary of the less-than-credible dealerships, and trust that the good dealerships know what they're doing and are doing everything in their power to help you.

You may not get your "dream car" the first time around, but by paying your bills on time and improving your credit score, you give yourself a much better opportunity to buy your dream car later on down the line when you work with an on the spot financing dealer.
