Smack Then Crack - Windshield Repair or Windshield Replacement?

Thank you for using rssforward.com! This service has been made possible by all our customers. As you are driving down the road, it happens. You hear that dreaded sound. Your car windshield gets hit by a rock or debris and a crack appears. Sometimes the crack is gigantic and sometimes only a teeny tiny crack appears. Cracks and chips of all sizes are not only unattractive, but they can make driving unsafe too. When you hear the sound of something hitting your windshield, in comes the dread and so does the fear of what it's going to cost to replace the complete windshield or get a windshield repair begin to set in. Will it even be necessary to have a complete windshield replacement?

Without saying, any major damage received that causes huge cracks or shatters to any part of the windshield or the entire windshield, yes, definitely, a complete replacement is necessary. However, newer cars have windshields installed that are regulated by the government and in some situations it may be better to have the windshield repaired instead. Keeping as much of your vehicle in original condition is best for resale value and safety.

As well, many insurance companies are referring their customers to have windshield repair done now instead of a windshield replacement. You may wonder why, right? Well this alternate method is not only less expensive than a complete windshield repair, but there is less time where you are without your car. So the insurance company has to pay less to get your car fixed and maybe even eliminate the need for a rental car too.

For you the driver, repairs to your windshield will hold up as well as the replacement too. The quality is just as good, you won't even know it by looking. If your insurance doesn't cover windshield damages, you certainly want to go the less expensive way out and repair versus replace is the right choice in this situation.

You may wonder if it is absolutely necessary to have a professional do your windshield repair. You've noticed the do-it-yourself windshield repair kits at your neighborhood auto parts store and looks like it would be simple enough, right? Well, think again, it is not that simple. Taking out the old and popping in the new takes special tools and techniques that the professionals have been trained for.

At the first sign of damage, it may not be as clear if repair or replacement is best and a professional is trained in knowing whether a repair is even feasible and will be successful. Not to mention that if trying to do this yourself at home, it could lead to a serious safety issue. Keep in mind also, that with a professional mobile auto glass service, there will be a professional, in flesh and blood, in your driveway or work parking lot that you can tell if they are being straight with you or not.

For the sake of safety and convenience, instead of taking your car to the shop, always consider using a mobile service instead. There are mobile auto glass services in the Virginia area now with experienced trained professionals. No need to try to drive with a busted windshield or a huge crack running across the drivers' view!

So the next time you hear that shuttering sound of a rock hitting your windshield, don't panic! A phone call to a mobile auto glass service will get you a windshield repair or windshield replacement in no time.

For mobile auto glass service in Northern Virginia and Washington DC, call Lucas Auto Glass for all your windshield repair or windshield replacement needs.

Tips on Getting New Car Tyres

Anyone who owns a car will one day be faced with the chore of getting new car tyres. Tyres do not last forever and if you allow them to become too worn you are not only breaking the law, but posing a serious safety hazard to yourself and others. Your car tyres will usually be checked when it is time to register the car; if they are a bit worn, but pass the inspection they may need replacing before the next inspection in twelve month's time. How do you tell if car tyres are worn?

Firstly there will not be much tread, or parts of the tread may be worn. The tread is the part of the tyre that touches the road surface. If the tread is worn the tyre will not be able to grip the road properly. This can lead to skids, aqua-planing in wet conditions and poor braking. Secondly there could be damage to the walls of the tyre. Bulges, splits and wear that expose the inner surface of the tyre all mean that a new tyre is needed immediately.

When you get new car tyres, you usually get the same kind as you already have on the car, especially if you bought the car new. Those tyres will have been fitted at the factory and usually represent a good tyre for general use. But when you buy a used car, it is possible that the factory tyres were replaced long ago and you cannot be sure that similar ones were purchased. They could be budget tyres or perhaps high performance tyres.

It is wise to take advice from the tyre-fitters as they are trained to know what tyres are the best both in value and in reliability. All tyres look about the same to the novice, so when you go to get new tyres and notice that some are really much cheaper than others, you may well be tempted to get the cheaper ones.

However, you have to think more about safety and reliability when it comes to car tyres. Besides which, cheaper tyres will wear out much more quickly and then you'll need to get more, so in the long run they are not likely to be a good deal. The more expensive tyres are made of materials that last a good deal longer than the cheaper ones.

You will also need to take climatic conditions into account when purchasing new car tyres. If you live in an area where snow is normal in winter, or where ice forms on the road on a regular basis, then you should consider getting special winter tyres. These have a much deeper tread and larger surface that helps the tyres grip the road in such conditions and reduces the likelihood of slipping and sliding.

Tyres are classified into three main categories; the speed rating, the size and the load index. High performance tyres are those that give more speed, but they do not grip the road as well. The load index tells you what weight vehicle that the tyre can support, while the size refers to the diameter and width of the tyre. It also takes into account the ratio of one to the other.

All About Chrome Wheels and Rims

One of the ways in which a person can make their vehicle stand out against the other vehicles that are out there is to have wheels and tires that are different from what originally came on the vehicle, or as what most people refer to as factory standards. These after factory parts are easy to find as there is a huge call for wheels and tires that are going to make the vehicle stand out in a crowd, and be something that shows the imagination and personality of the driver. So what kind of wheels and tires can the person choose from?

They are going to find that chrome wheels are something to choose from. These chrome wheels or chrome rims are something that the person will find changes the look of the car completely. Instead of having what most cars have, which is alloy wheels, the chrome is going to be much shinier and eye attracting. In order to care for the chrome wheels or chrome rims, the person must realize that this does call for more than simply scrubbing them down, in fact by scrubbing the person could find that they actually scratch the chrome.

Care for these chrome wheels and chrome rims means that you pay a bit of extra attention to the wheels. Washing with warm water and then drying them immediately with a micro fiber towel is the best way to make sure that the wheels stay clean and free of damage. However, about once a month the person needs to make sure that they use chrome polish in order to make the wheels as shiny as possible. The person may also want to consider a clay treatment every few months that is meant to keep the wheels in tip-top shape. With that being said, there are a few things that the person is going to want to avoid. For example, driving their chrome wheels in snow where salt is mixed on the roadway is going to lead to faster deterioration of the wheel and is something that people should make sure that they avoid. In addition, scrubbing these wheels with a brush or other type of abrasive object is going to put scratches into the wheels that cannot be buffed out.

Overall, chrome wheels or chrome rims are something that are going to make a vehicle stand out. Yet, the person that decides to use these should make sure that they are taking the proper care of these. If they do not plan to take the care that is needed for them, then other types of wheels and tires that are out there is going to be something that they should look into, especially those that do not want something that is going to require that much maintenance and upkeep as chrome wheels do.

The Author is a professional writer, presently writing for wheels and tires and chrome rims.

Do New Car Tyres Need to Be Aligned?

Thank you for using rssforward.com! This service has been made possible by all our customers. If you are satisfied with your free trial, please sign-up today. Subscriptions without a plan would soon be removed. Thank you!

It is always a good idea to get new car tyres checked for alignment. It is quite easy for tyres to get out of alignment; you only have to hit a bad pothole in the road for the suspension to get bumped out of alignment. What does it mean exactly for car tyres to be out of alignment? It means that they are not quite straight - and so there will be a great deal more wear and tear on them. Having just paid a sizeable sum of money to have them fitted, you hardly want them to start wearing out unnecessarily.

How can you tell if tyres are not properly aligned? Very often the vehicle will start to shudder at certain speeds, or the steering wheel might vibrate at higher speed. If the problem is not corrected you will soon see uneven wear on the tyre treads as it means that one or more tyres are being dragged to some extent rather than running straight and true. There are other problems caused from not having your tyres properly aligned.

* Higher fuel consumption. When tyres are not running straight there is drag which means the engine must work harder to make the car go. This relates to more fuel consumption.
* The car feels as if it is wandering - the steering wheel may pull to the left or right.
* The ride will not be as smooth as one or more tyres are constantly being dragged to correct their direction.
* Handling and control will not be as efficient and can cause accidents. It can also cause driver fatigue.

When you get a wheel alignment done it is necessary to have all four tyres aligned at the same time. Only then can you be sure that they will all be travelling in the same central direction. This should be done at least once a year or every 20,000 kilometres or so. It may need to be done more often if you constantly drive on bad roads that contain lots of potholes, or if the car has been in a minor prang.

To check if your vehicle needs an alignment, choose an empty road and while driving slowly, let go of the steering wheel. If the vehicle pulls to the left or right, or if the steering wheel rotates without you touching it, you can be pretty sure that the alignment is out. At higher speeds take note if the car shudders or if the steering wheel seems to vibrate. See if it seems hard to turn a corner or do parallel parking. Such problems can often be caused by your wheels being out of alignment - or out of balance.

Having regular maintenance such as a suspension check on the vehicle often means that other problems can be picked up before they translate into something serious and more costly. And since it makes the vehicle safer, easier to drive and saves you running costs, getting it done should certainly be something that you would not think twice about.

Mistakes To Avoid At The Auto Repair Shop

Thank you for using rssforward.com! This service has been made possible by all our customers. Many problems at the repair shop occur because of a failure to properly communicate your car's symptoms. Being able to be as specific as possible can greatly help your mechanic. Try to note what you see, smell, hear, and feel. It can also be helpful to remember where the symptom occurred and what happened just before. For example, where you driving over a bumpy road when the sensor light went on? Notice how many times roughly the symptoms have occurred. Inform your mechanic if there were any other recent repairs performed. In some instances, a problem could be related to the last repair.

One of the biggest mistakes is when a customer sets unrealistic expectations. If you are scheduled to go on a long road trip or vacation, do not bring a car in for repairs at the last-minute before your trip. It is unwise to expect a repair facility to fix your brakes or perform a major service two hours or less before you leave. In our business, we always try to accommodate customers, we know life happens and things can unexpectedly occur. Certain repair jobs can take two or more hours to complete. It is a good idea to allow enough time for your repair. Call and ask how long the work could take. Be prepared to arrange for a ride to and from the repair facility, if the wait is more than you expected. Keep in mind that you expect the mechanic to do the job right. Fair scheduling is needed to accommodate receiving the best service.

You will have a better experience by cleaning out your car interior before leaving it for repairs. If you have strollers, shopping bags, sports equipment or tools loaded in the back, your mechanic may have to remove those items to reach a failed part or conduct a proper wheel alignment. Some materials are so heavy they may not be able to get your vehicle up on a lift. If a mechanic needs to spend time unloading your vehicle, this counts in your repair time. Save time and money by bringing your car in with all unnecessary items removed.

Make sure the contact information you give to the repair shop is a phone number you can be quickly reached at. If your shop is unable to contact you in a timely fashion to approve a repair, your vehicle may be left to sit. Making yourself available for prompt response helps to schedule the ordering of needed materials to execute your repair in a timely fashion.

Take into consideration all the things you can do to contribute to saving time and money by following the above advice. A good independent shop will listen and work with their customer and will be focused on customer satisfaction.

Advice on Buying a Used Car

If you've decided to purchase a used car there are a number of factors you should consider to begin with. Firstly, you have a number of options open to you when it comes to where you wish to buy your car from.

Deciding to buy from a dealer ensures that you have legal protection. Car dealerships are legally required to sell cars that meet with certain standard of quality. The cars should be considered roadworthy, free from any defects and the legal documents should be in place to prove that the dealer has the right to sell the car. Any misleading information from the dealers such as reducing the number of owners the car has had or embellishing the truth regarding the cars service history is likely to tarnish the dealerships reputation and could lead to legal action in the future. If you have any concerns regarding the dealer's credibility then you can check to see if they're members of any trade associations or registered bodies such as the Retail Motor Industry Federation.

Franchised outlets are generally regarded as the safest option and remove the risk associated with buying from some dealerships. The risk can be reduced further by reading used car dealer reviews which are written by the customers who've had previous experience of the dealerships. These outlets also have a wider range of makes and models available, offer comprehensive warranties, provide a high quality of sales service, a full car history check and the chance to part exchange your existing car.

In recent years independent car supermarkets have seen a huge growth in popularity which is largely down to offering a high volume of virtually new cars with relatively low mileage. Prices generally appeal to most people providing you're content with basic models. However, if you have your sights set on a rare model then you'd be best advised to shop elsewhere. Another down side is that independent car supermarkets do not offer the same level of after sales support as franchised outlets nor do they offer warranties that are as enticing.

The final option open to you has traditionally been seen as the cheapest but at the same time the one which represents the most risk. Private sellers have far less legal obligations than the dealerships and you enter into the sale at your own risk. Some sellers are intentionally out there to deceive you and will happy sell you faulty and even stolen cars. Don't let this deter you though; if you find out all you can about the car then it is entirely possible that you can end up with a fantastic deal.

To find the best place to buy a used car, read the used car dealer reviews at JudgeService

Unveiled: 2012 Aston Martin V12 Zagato Production Car

Today marks a historical day for Aston Martin as they officially unveil their V12 Zagato. Dr. Ulrich Bez, Chief Executive of Aston Martin, claims the Zagato "is destined to be one of the most highly coveted models in Aston Martin's 98-year history." That is certainly a strong claim to make, especially considering the fact that, in my opinion, nearly every Aston Martin is already coveted.

The Zagato isn't your ordinary Aston Martin though, in the sense that it isn't just a spiced up Vanquish or a face-lifted DB9. The V12 Zagato is based on the 1960 DB4GT Zagato that was essentially a lightened and improved version of the regular DB4GT; that was designed and made by Zagato in their Italian production facilities. The rare 1960's Zagato easily goes for $6.5 million in auctions today.

You're probably thinking, "So what? Aston Martin just redesigned a 50 year old car, what's the big deal?" - But it's not that simple. You see, Aston didn't just want to unveil a freshened up Zagato. What they revealed is a GT-ready super car, because before the V12 Zagato hit's Aston dealerships around the world, in fact, before this article was even written, two race-ready V12 Zagato concept cars have already competed in the 24 hours of Nurburgring Nordschleife. It's obvious Aston is not messing around with the new V12 Zagato. They've not only refreshed a historically rare and beautiful vehicle, they've also unleashed a beast that is to be reckoned with.

The new V12 Zagato, designed and built by the same Italians, is primarily based on the Vantage platform, featuring a "unique blend of power, beauty, soul, refinement, and dynamic agility." It sits on a bonded aluminum chassis that harnesses a 6.0-liter V12 naturally aspirated engine, producing 510 horsepower and 570 ft-lb of torque. That power is put to the road through a six speed manual gearbox that will get you from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds.

As always, Aston does not fail to impress with the design of the V12 Zagato either; with hand crafted carbon fiber and aluminum panels, only 150 of these cars will ever be made. The extensive labor time required for shaping each panel by hand will limit the total production of this car. The V12 Zagato takes a few design cues from the original DB4GT, but mostly just intimidates with the usual Aston Martin finesse of perfectly balanced performance with design.

With such impressive performance figures and stunning design cues, Dr. Ulrich Bez may be right about the Zagato being the most coveted Aston Martin to date, but that may also be due to the fact that few people will be able to afford, let alone, even find one of the 150 Zagatos that are being planned to sell for $550,000.

Information on Diesel Parts

Here is a list of some spare parts that you may need.

* Many problems with the diesel engine are to do with the cooling system. Some have a coolant filter to control the acidity level of the coolant and reduce the likelihood of corrosive particles building up inside the engine block.

* Coolant hoses should be checked frequently to ensure they have not worked loose or degraded. Having some additional coolant hoses in your spare parts box is a good idea.

* Gaskets should be carefully monitored due to the fact that they work under extreme operation conditions. If one gasket starts to leak the whole lot should be replaced as they are also likely to start leaking sooner rather than later.

* Mounting bolts should be re-torqued regularly as the vibration of the engine can cause them to come loose.

* The engine filter element is likely to become dirty quite often and needs to be replaced. Diesel engines use a lot of air in running, but the filter is not highly visible. To ensure that the problem does not go unnoticed many people use an air filter indicator on the side of the housing of the air filter. By changing colour, this item will tell them when the filter is becoming dirty before any problems develop.

* Some diesel engine owners use after coolers if their engines are turbo charged.

* The right oil filter is also necessary for diesel engines. Since sulphur and carbon are created from the diesel being burned - or actually from it not being totally burned, an oil filter is necessary so that corrosive particles do not enter the engine fuel. You have to be sure to get the right one for your vehicle.

* An early warning device can be installed in the dash that will warn the driver if the engine is overheating. This is particularly important for diesel engines as permanent damage can result from overheating.

* Some diesel engines use two different types of fuel filters to ensure there is no build-up of moisture in the engine. Some fuel tanks have breather vents that allow condensation to escape. They should be checked to ensure that they are not blocked up.

* Glow plugs are used to heat the engine and help prevent the build-up of black soot. These are especially necessary in cold weather and are essential in any spare parts box.

* In locations where the winter is very cold, an electrical heater can be installed to the cylinder block, or a heater element in the heater hose. Starting fluid can also be sprayed sparingly on the combustion chamber in severe conditions.

Dex is a current mechanic looking to open up his own garage. He specialises in the servicing of diesel engines, cylinder heads, crank shafts and diesel generators. He provides free tips and advice on products he has had past experience which, including reconditioned engines, cylinder head reconditioning and perkins diesel parts.

Freight Transport Driving and Management Skills Scarcity and the Situation Nowadays

The supply chain is generally a system regarding businesses, people, technologies, activities, information and resources such as freight services involved in transferring services or products coming from provider or purchaser to the customer or perhaps consumer. Supply chain actions change raw materials through creation and manufacture right completed product which is shipped to the end consumer.

The actual transportation market segment is extremely large and features a lot of routines which play an important role in England as well as International economies. Freight is sometimes described as by road or land, sea, air and also rail. Altogether they help make up the central source involving industry.

Larger sized transportation companies plus firms make use of various freight transport along with those mentioned above.

Freight businesses might be deemed as self managed distribution and those firms that manage a different firms freight activities on their behalf these are generally also known as third-party logistics or maybe 3PL abbreviated.

In accordance with Skills regarding Logistics (the Sector Skills Council regarding the actual UK's freight logistics market sectors), in excess of 60% of Great Britain freight is completed for 'hire and reward' (i.e. 3PL) with respect to another firm.

There has been an increasing tendency between freight movement establishments to use various firms to fulfill their demands.

Road freight makes up an impressive 65% of the World freight activities and for that reason 82% throughout the UK on it's own instead of other way of travel for example water, air in addition to rail which are much smaller operations. This demonstrates road freight makes up a lot more market share there were previously believed.

The biggest issue in the transportation industry is the reliance on sub-contractors and also smaller companies which leads to training program shortages and extended training program demands, with very good training course material and the significances associated with this.

Skills general shortage throughout the Transport Marketplace

There seems to be a Larger Goods Vehicle or perhaps LGV for short' driver deficiency with just 19% "new blood" or perhaps fresh employees entering the market, the rest getting procured coming from existing logistics businesses worldwide. This is not a significant issue regarding the logistics companies unsurprisingly. However it's specifically hard to recruit women or individuals from minority ethnic backgrounds as LGV drivers. I guess it's not for these people?

Road Transportation Driving plus Management Techniques Gained within the Logistics Solutions

Just about every unit has got its Motor Transportation Officer, who runs a fleet of autos and drivers. Transport units have got numerous various other supervisors plus drivers since the whole unit is split up into fleets of many sizes and denominations. Formations as well as bases also often have devoted transport resources, in addition to their people may either be in the employment full-time or incorporate it along with similar works.

The military are generally also often interested in travel, but they also don't work in vehicle fleets them selves.

They may be involved along with everything from project control to training, as well as from holding vehicles to logistical organizing. Because Services tend to be commonly concerned with movement in their activities, transport features greatly in all their day to day activities. The Defence School of Transport (DST) takes individuals from all 3 solutions stated previously upon various sorts of courses. The Courses emphasise vocational qualifications plus apprenticeships. For those of you military staff that happen to be rejoining "civy street", training is often offered within driving or perhaps transport management which is often accessed through the actual Career Transition Partnership (CTP). Service drivers whom already keep a C or C E driving licence ought to convert to civilian standards and practices or even retake their tests.

Writer is proud to have been recently working closely together with Hythe Transport Training for many years now within the Transport Training logistics market throughout London and also the bordering regions.

How To Choose A Driving Instructor

Finding your Driving Instructor

It is vital that you pick a 'good' driving instructor, especially with the amount of teachers offering driving lessons in London. Don't be afraid to shop around before you get stuck in with one teacher. It is a good idea to have a relative or friend to teach you to drive around London for your first few lessons. This is to get you comfortable with driving and taking control of your car. Once you are calmer and more confident sitting behind the wheels, you can make a more rational decision on your driving instructor.

Now there is nothing wrong with having a relative or friend to teach you until you can pass your exam. However, having a real instructor can make the journey much easier.

Do not underestimate the value of your social network. Don't be afraid to ask your friends about their driving instructor. A post on Facebook or a tweet on twitter will likely yield you many choices.

The Instructor for you

Every driving instructor will be slightly different and many of them offer first lessons free. You should take them up on their offer and see if their teaching style suits you. Do not stick with a driving instructor just because you can't be bothered to find others. This is your own money you are spending.

Do research and ring up different driving schools to find out their lesson length, times, and price. Then eliminate those with too long lesson times, awkward teaching hours and those that are out of your price range. With the ones that are left, go for a test run and see what the instructor's teaching style is like.

If a particular school does not offer free first lessons, book only 1 lesson. Do not get talked into paying for more than 1 lesson yet.

The instructor should make you feel comfortable driving. You should be able to feel like you are progressing. If you feel discouraged and annoyed after your driving lesson, you know you have the wrong instructor. However, you should also know yourself before making too quick a decision on your instructor. Are you the type of person who can bear to hear the truth without the sugarcoating? If so, the harsher instructor will help you progress much faster.

If on the other hand you know you have trouble taking criticism, then someone who is much more free with praises would help you progress faster. Do not automatically assume that a mean instructor is a bad instructor, try to remain impartial and pay attention to the amount of progress you have made during your lesson. Sometimes, you may find you learn faster with someone who is totally opposite to you.

Choosing the Best Performance Tires

Thank you for using rssforward.com! This service has been made possible by all our customers. It's not always easy to know which performance tires are the best for your vehicle, and that suits your driving style. It is also important to take into consideration the type of climate you are in. Low profile tires can have an adverse reaction on your car's handling if your suspension is not tuned for them.

So with that in mind let's consider the factors that contribute to you finding the best performance tires for your car.

1. Price - while it is important not to buy cheap tires that don't offer the best road holding and braking ability, you don't necessarily need to buy the most expensive either. You can often find a tire that has a good mix of advanced tread pattern, compound longevity and handling performance at a mid price range. Just don't be sucked into buying the cheapest tire you can find, as you might find yourself having to pay for a new set if they wear out too quickly or don't perform.

2. Braking Performance - How quickly your car stops is greatly affected by the tread pattern and compound of the tyre. A tire compound that is too hard will be easy to lock up during braking, and one that is too soft will offer fantastic braking ability, but will wear too quickly. You need to find a tire that is a balance between too hard and too soft.

3. Seasonal Requirements - It goes without saying that if you live in a colder climate area, you will need performance tires that can handle winter conditions. If you life in a warmer area, you will most probably be able to fit an all season type of tire.

4. Original Fitment - You may be surprised to learn that your car has been designed to use a certain type of tire, and you should always stay within the guidelines of your original tires, as changing the wheel diameter and profile of your tire can severely affect the handling characteristics. If you do wish to change tires and wheels and go for a bigger size rim, you should definitely consider having your suspension adjusted to suit the new wheel size

So there you have 4 ways to choose the best performance tire, but the most important thing to remember is to do your research, find out what is most suitable for your car, and your own unique circumstances, and carefully consider the options available.

Choosing the best performance tires shouldn't be hard. Check out our website for more advice and tips www.bestperformancetires.net.

Extreme Weather Drains Car Batteries

Thank you for using rssforward.com! This service has been made possible by all our customers. Summertime is hell on car and motorcycle batteries. Especially if you live in hot and dry climates the American southwest and Texas. When summer temperatures reach 100 degrees and more the combination of the heat in the air and evaporation can quickly drain the life out of automotive batteries. Add that to the fact that the average car battery only lasts between one and two years and it's to guess that you'll probably have to replace the battery in your car, truck, or motorcycle at least one June or July every handful of years.

Before you head off on that summer road trip it's a good idea to have your battery checked at your auto parts or local battery store to make sure everything is running fine. A simple battery charge test will show you just how much power your battery has and whether or not it's able to continually hold a charge. If the power is low or not charging consistently it's probably time to replace that battery with a new one. After all, the last thing you want is to be stranded at a rest stop because your car won't start, waiting for roadside assistance to arrive from hours away. In other words, a dead battery can really put a damper in that family friendly road trip.

But surviving the summer's heat and 2,000 mile trip to some enchanted theme park doesn't necessarily mean your batter is in the clear. Winter can be just as harsh on batteries, especially in bone chilling temperatures, snow, and ice. Batteries often give out under harsh winter conditions and if you think that sitting in the summer heat without the comfort of air conditioning while you wait for help to arrive is bad, just imagine sitting in subzero temperatures with no heat or relief from the impending frost bite. Winter driving is dangerous enough; the last thing you want to risk is a dead battery.

But some people avoid replacing worn batteries even after the first signs of failure. They rely on jump starts and recharges to get by temporarily because they mistakenly believe replacing that old damaged battery is going to be too costly.

Fortunately discount batteries can found online for just about every make and model of car or motorcycle. You can even find discount lawn mower and marine batteries for a fraction of the cost at the major automotive store making finding your discount batteries online a good way to help keep your car running smoothly and keep a little extra green in your pocket.

Jayson Bailey is a writer for http://www.batterymart.com/c-motorcycle-batteries.html who offers motorcycle batteries and battery store as well as a host of other discount batteries.

The last thing a new car owner is worried about is costly repairs. If you keep up with basic maintenance, you can considerably stay safe from both minor upkeep and major repairs. Failing to maintain the car and taking care of routine issues will not keep the vehicle reliable. Prescott car repair services can provide all the maintenance needs of your car ensuring a hassle free vehicle.

To keep your car running and performing, here are basic maintenance 10 tips:

Regularly inspect your tires.

Make sure the tires are properly filled and inspect the treads on a regular basis. To avoid imbalance get the tires aligned after every 3000 miles.

Regular belt inspection.

The engine belt system supports your alternator and air conditioner to function properly. If these belts are damaged or break they can be very costly and can also damage other parts of the engine. Inspect the belts regularly for wear & tear if they do show signs of decadence replace them without a doubt before they become an issue.

Check fluids on a regular basis.

Keeping oil, water, power steering fluid, battery water and other fluids under constant observation is necessary. Check them regularly and refilled as needed. Oil is the most important of these liquids make sure you check the oil every 3 months since used oil can cause engine seizure.

Consume the right gasoline.

Use the correct gasoline recommended by the car company or dealer. Using regular or HOBC super gasoline can have significant effects on the engine, fuel consumption and economy per mile. Using super when the engine is prone to regular gasoline can not give you better performance.

Have regular maintenance and check-ups.

You should have regular check-ups and maintenance of the vehicle. Tasks such as wheel alignment, oil changes, tire cleaning, fuse box and wiring should be checked on a regular basis. Even if your car is in top shape its better to make these checks so there is no room for a major error.

Protect & maintain the electrical wiring.

When performing repairs or cleaning your electrical system and wiring, protect yourself and especially the car by disconnecting the battery. When changing the car radio system or installing a security alarm make sure the battery is not plugged in.

Protect the body and paint job.

Keep up with basic cleaning and waxing of the exterior. Washing the car properly and waxing the body regularly prevents rust from setting n and helps keep scratches down to a minimum.

Be aware of warning lights.

Dashboard lights are installed and blink for a reason. When engine, oil, battery or any other light is on in the dashboard meter, you should probably take it very seriously and get a checkup to find the source of the issue.

Regularly service or change the air filter.

The air filter is a very basic yet very critical component for air conditioning & the engine. The air conditioning fan uses the filter to block out dust, and, so does the engine. So its necessary to clean the air filter or replace it accordingly when the need arises.

External lights.

Exterior lights are a very common reason people get pulled over by the traffic police. Take your time to check signaling, brake lights and head lights on a regular basis. Driving without these lights is dangerous, so make sure you inspect them at least every 45 days.

The Dog Days of Summer

Thank you for using rssforward.com! This service has been made possible by all our customers. Most of the country is experiencing very warm weather. The hot weather not only takes a toll on us, but also on our cars. However, there are some things you can do to help your car get through the dog days of summer whether you are driving a husky old waggon, a tricked out vet or a mixed breed.

If your engine has a tendency to paws, growl, is whining or running ruff, one of your spark plugs might be going a stray. If you have not replaced them in awhile, do so. If your air conditioner is barely panting, check the compressor. If it is barking, it is trying to speak to you about replacing it.

Next, check the pointer on your temperature gauge. If it is showing that it is hot, look under the hood to see if any fluids are drooling from your coolant system. Also, check to see if any of the belts are chewed up. If so, fix the problem. Otherwise, your baby will get overheated and you might have to go for a long walk to fetch some water.

Now, check the struts on your car and also check your brakes and brake pads for any signs of wear. Faulty struts, brakes or pads that stick could cause your car to roll over and play dead. If you are not a do-it-yourselfer, just bring your little princess to the pet clinic for a complete check-up from nose to tail and then let them groom her.

You should make sure to give your car a bath weekly to get rid of all the accumulated dirt and debris. Use a soft cloth to clean off all of those pesky critters from the snout of your car and from the pupils of your headlights. And, giving it a good smooth coat of wax regularly will protect it from the harsh rays of the summer sun.

If you take care of your car, it will treat you like a true champion and take care of you fur a very long time. Otherwise, it might bite you in the end. If that happens, you will be in the dog house and have to ride a greyhound to work.

If your car will no longer keep you the leader of the pack, do not send it to the local bone yard. Many charities will be happy to adopt your old yeller. Donating your pooch is much better than trying to sell it because they will not hound you and they will not try to fleas you. They will fetch it for free and, you will not be biting your nails waiting for them to show up. You, also, will not be ticked by the tax deduction you will get as your reward.

Karen Campese is the Co-founder and CEO of Cars4Charities, a not for profit car donation center. They have over 1,000 respected charities that you can donate car to. When you donate your car, you get a tax deduction and help a good cause.

What Can Be Done About Problematic Automotive Brakes

Noisy brakes tell you that your brake pads need fixing. It's difficult to determine whether or not your car really needs to be dismantled to fix it, though. Take note that the extent of the damage can't be guessed by simply studying the nature of the noise. In all likelihood, you will not have the necessary expertise to deduce a real damage just by listening to cars. Do not be mistaken, though, as that is very possible for people who have expertise in the field of automotive. The noise can be caused either by something potentially dangerous to you, as a driver, or by something that is just a matter of inconvenience.

Suffice to say, an average driver will not have the necessary skills to figure out what the damage is just by the screeching sound the braking makes; that is, if it is really the brake pad that is causing the problem. In a lot of cases, the noise your vehicles brake pads make are nonthreatening, which means it could be simple dust or metal that somehow got stuck on the pads. It is easy to fix. In fact, you can leave it be and it will go away, after a time. Or, if you really cannot take the squealing, you can always disassemble the brakes and clean the pads, then put it back again.

If the problem is serious, leaving the noise alone is out of the question. There are cases when the noise is caused by breakage or weakening of the components. After all, brakes are subject to constant wear and tear, and will reduce in quality after a time. If there really is a problem that needs fixing in the brakes, the noise is a clear call for help, meant to get your attention. Otherwise it can be very disastrous for you, as well as your passengers.

There are methods you can use to make your assumption if only a little bit more accurate. One way is to consider the age of the vehicle. It is common sense that older vehicles will be less durable than brand new ones. In perspective, brand new vehicles will have new brake systems installed and haven't been subjected to damage as of yet. The downside is that trying to do this method is dangerous, especially for second-hand cars that are advertised to be newer than they really are.

If the first method is not reliable, another way to detect the cause of the noise is to consider what sorts of things accompany it. For example, delayed or advanced braking can be a sign that the brake pads are not functioning very well, and that the noise is an indicator of a foreboding disaster. Sharp pulls when turning left or right or cutting tight corners might also be a signal. If it is, the car needs to be looked at by someone working at the auto shop as soon as possible.

There are two very common causes for noisy brake pads: dust and substances. The brake pads are made of different substances or materials, which can cause noise when ground together. Dust basically sticks to the brake pads and make them rougher than necessary. When you hit the brakes, those dust particles create annoying squeal-like noises.

After the dust settles into the pads, they will create noise for a time. Fortunately, they go away on their own, which means you do not really have to do anything to remove them. The dust particles have nothing with which to attach permanently.

It will take only weeks before such constant minimal damage add up to something great. To avoid this, you can try dampening the pads frequently, or bring your car to the shop to have the mechanics do something to reduce dust entry points.

In summary, it is very important to know what is causing the noise in your automotive brakes systems. It can be no more than an inconvenience, but sometimes it can be serious, too. If you wish to buy brand new brake pads, consider looking on the internet to find the best possible prices from online auto part dealers.

How To Find The Cause Of Noisy Automotive Brakes

Noisy brakes is a definitely a sign that the car is in need of immediate attention. The real extent of the damage on the breaks can be guessed on the nature of the noise. However, not very many people are able to do that. With the exception of professional car mechanics or someone with the same expertise, no person will be able to deduce the problem just by listening to the noise. The noise itself could be nothing serious, a matter that can be fixed in no more than a few minutes. On the flipside, if could be something totally different, let alone potentially dangerous.

Since it is hardly possible to be able to point out the damage just by listening to the noise, it is imperative to fix noisy breaks as soon as it comes to notice. Some of the causes for noisy brakes are nonthreatening, caused by small shards of metal or dusts, stuck between the brake pads. When the brake pads are used, these materials create friction with the pads, also creating the noise. If that is the case, then the problem can be resolved easily. It would only take dismantling the brake and removing the obstructing particles and reassembling it all over again. After that, the car would be running like its brakes are brand new.

On the contrary, the problem could be something serious. In some cases, the noise on the brakes is caused by broken or weakened components. After all, the brakes are also subjected to wear and tear, and should be expected to reduce in durability over time. In that case, the noise may be an indicator that one or more components are not functioning correctly, and that the damage may result to something very disastrous. If there is such damage on the brakes, the broken component will have to be adjusted or replaced.

One thing that a driver can use to decide whether or not the braking noise is a serious matter is the age of the vehicle. Similarly, the last time the brakes were replaced or fixed should be taken into consideration. Brand new cars with brand new braking systems are less likely to produce noise, and if they did, chances are that is just caused by dust particles stuck on the brake pads. However, this diagnostic is far from ideal. In fact, it is not very advisable to base the assessment of the damage in the age of the brakes or the vehicle.

A more effective way to detect whether the noise is caused by something potentially dangerous is if it is accompanied by a number of things. Sharp pulls on either side when braking, late braking, advanced braking, less than ideally powerful braking, these are all indications that the loud braking is a serious a problem that the driver must get looked at by professional mechanics as soon as possible.

Two of the most common causes of noisy braking are the substances that are used in making brake pads and dust. Dust, much like other contaminants, can get into the brake pads, the chance more likely if the car is frequently driven on the off-roads.

Once the dusts get into the brake pads, they will cause momentary noises that will soon go away. That is because the dusts have nothing to latch onto in between the brake pads. The dust particles are bound to sooner or later fall out, allowing the brake pads to be noise-free again. This, however, still degrades the quality of the brake pads.

In a matter of weeks, constant dusts on the brake pads will make it less durable and therefore less safe to drive with. One way to help prevent dusts from getting to the brake pads is by dampening the pads.

Most of today's automotive brakes are made of metallic materials, which are more durable and hard wearing. However, they may also cause noise sometimes. In conclusion, it is very crucial for the driver to pay attention to such detail when trying to figure out what is causing this problem.

Bolt Tightening Torque Significance

There are thousands of bolts in your vehicle that hold together critical components in your automobile. These components must be fastened together correctly to ensure that your vehicle can perform as safely and flawlessly as it was designed for. Many mechanics and do it yourself repairmen do not correctly follow torque specifications or, sometimes, completely ignore them altogether. Yes, there are some bolts that do not require torquing and can simply be 'snugged'; however, the majority of bolts in your car should be torqued to the design engineer's original standards.

The contact surfaces between any components that have been thoroughly analyzed for stress, fatigue, strain, or thermal expansion need to be fitted together within a certain tightness tolerance in order to successfully meet the design requirements. The tightness between two components will affect many parameters including, but not limited to, vibration, stress, fatigue life, strength, thermal cracking, and durability.

One common example of overlooked bolt torquing is the brake caliper guide bolts and mounting bracket bolts. The brake caliper guide bolts are generally torqued to around 25 ft-lbs and the bracket to wheel housing bolts are around 100 ft-lbs. First of all, there is the obvious problem with under torquing (insufficient bolt tightening) because the normal thermal and vibration cycles can loosen the bolts overtime and lead to catastrophic brake failure. Loose bolts will also cause the braking system to chatter and put more stress on the actual fasteners. When the components are firmly together, a good amount of stress is evenly transferred through the actual mating surfaces, the bolts are there to simply hold them together by tension. If the bolts are loose, the bolts may be subjected to abnormally large amounts of shearing force (an adjacent force to the direction the bolt points to) and can easily break if it was not designed to handle the excessive shear.

Over tightening is also a huge problem, sometimes even worse than under tightening. The bolts need to be able to stretch to compensate for the increased thickness of the parts due to thermal expansion. If those same caliper bracket bolts are over torqued then they lose that stretching ability and can fail as the brake parts expand at temperatures exceeding 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

One last important tip is to make sure you know if the threads of the bolt were dry, oiled, or moly lubed for the torque procedure. Moly lube reduced the amount of friction between the threads significantly, so less torque is needed to obtain the same clamping load. When in doubt, install the bolts with clean, dry threads.

For your next repairs, make sure that you save money on automotive parts by using online coupons. You can even order online and pick up the parts at your local store for the savings and convenience.

What to Do When Your Car Doesn't Start

Thank you for using rssforward.com! This service has been made possible by all our customers. If you are satisfied with your free trial, please sign-up today. Subscriptions without a plan would soon be removed. Thank you!

When you rely on your car for every day essential errands, your day can take a downturn when your car unexpectedly won't start. If your car doesn't start while you are out, you may not have the right people and/or resources around and you may be left stranded.

What Could Be Wrong?
If your car was running fine and all of a sudden it doesn't start, the first place to look is the car battery. The battery may have become discharged or may be low on power. Luckily this is an easy fix.

What Can I Do?
Carefully open the hood and look at the battery. See if you can observe it being in place. Observe the cable clamps. If they appear loose, or if you see powder like accumulation or corrosive build up, that may be the target repair problem. The corrosion from the battery terminal must be cleaned and the clamps must be tightened to make sure it doesn't move.

If the battery is not the problem, check to see if it might be something basic such as low fuel or the car may not fully in park.

Safety First
If the car is somewhat running, try to get to a safe location such as a parking lot of a business that is still open. If the vehicle is not running, but can coast in neutral, guide the car to the right shoulder, but stay on level ground. Leave emergency flashers on so other drivers can notice you.

If the car is stuck in traffic, just turn on the emergency flashers. You and your passengers should not remain in a car that is stuck in a busy area, especially if there is potential for the car to be hit from behind. Exit from the side away from traffic. While waiting for help, never stand behind or in front of a stranded vehicle. If you are unable to call for help, you can try to safely signal other drivers by raising the hood.

If you do not have an emergency kit handy with a flag, flare, or warning triangles, then you can tie a bright colored cloth or scarf to the antenna or driver door handle. Seeing these signals can help prompt an oncoming driver to slow down while approaching.

Where Do I Send My Car?
Most emergency roadside services will pay for a tow within a 100 mile radius of the area you are stranded. It is a good idea to keep the phone numbers and addresses of repair facilities you prefer handy in your car as a reference. Or if you are traveling, try to bookmark in advance potential directories you can easily access from a smart phone or GPS. Some emergency roadside services, offer mobile applications to access pre-screened facilities nearby. If you are a person who tends to forget your membership cards, always keep a copy of your membership letter with member number handy in your car. If you have a preferred repair facility, make a mental note to ask them their procedure for helping existing customers when they are stranded. Some repair facilities have towing services they have established relationships with and may be able to help you avoid the long wait if you are stranded. Others may offer a courtesy car service to come and pick you up if you are stranded during their normal business hours. Asking these questions in advance can save time and/or money.

Movement across locations in terms of a state, country or even overseas has become the norm nowadays and what bothers the owners the most is the car transport cost. Since most of the people are proud owners of a four-wheeler, it becomes an imperative to assess the expenses that would be associated with relocating to another location. As opposed to earlier days when people preferred driving down to their destinations, nowadays due to the excessive luggage movement in a car does not seem to be a viable option. Many individuals avail the services of companies which transport cars across locations.

In certain cases, wherein families are out for a vacation, they prefer driving their own cars. In such cases, car companies which offer transportation facilities are a boon. Most of the times, there are two options which can be utilized by the owners; allowing someone to drive the car between the locations or have it shipped it across through transport carriers. The car transport cost through shipping is based on the distance across which the car needs to be driven, fuel expenses are inclusive of the fee depending on the mileage. However, this option cannot be availed for overseas transportation.

Another factor which needs to be kept in mind while car transportation takes place is the safety of the vehicle. Car transport cost in case of car carrier is much more as compared to the cost incurred in shipping the vehicle. However, the former is a much safer way of transporting the car. The shipping can be undertaken in an open or an enclosed trailer truck. Quite obviously, the enclosed method is much safer and therefore costlier. In case the individual plans to transport a Vintage car, an enclosed trailer is always preferable as opposed to an open one which increases the likelihood of damage to the vehicle.

Apart from the wear and tear which can be caused by the shipping vehicle, even the climatic conditions such as rain, dirt, sunlight and dust can spoil the sheen of the car. In case of International movement, choice can be made between sole use and shared containers. Car transport cost for sole use container would be fairly higher than that of the shared one. But for a car which in itself is expensive; with an extra fee, the services of a container which is of sole use can be availed. This would reassure the safety of your precious asset.

Before availing the services of such companies, one should inquire about the Insurance which is provided mostly by the reputed shipping firms. Prior to signing the contract for such shipping corporations, you could have a better understanding of the factors which have been outlined in the contract. There might be certain car carriers which charge an additional fee for the services offered by them including Insurance. Car transport cost is certainly essential while gauging the cost of movement but it should not exceed beyond your budget and should also safeguard your assets.

How to Tow a Car - What Equipment Should You Rent?

Wondering how to tow a car yourself?
If you need to tow your own car, this article should provide some valuable insight about the various options you have, the nitty-gritty of actually towing the car, as well as safety precautions and on-road driving guidelines for making your tow a safe and hassle-free experience.

What equipment do I need to tow my car?
The first thing to consider is what kind of equipment you will need for towing your own car. This will depend on the vehicle which you are towing, as well as the degree of security you want to have while towing your car. Here are the various options available to those who need to tow their own car, as well as a breakdown of when these options will be suitable:

1.) Tow dollies. Tow dollies are two-wheel dollies that can hold two of your car's wheels while the other two roll freely on the ground. The other end is hitched to whatever vehicle you will be using to tow the towed vehicle. Because two wheels will be on the ground while you're pulling your car along, it's CRUCIAL that these be free-rolling wheels. Otherwise you can cause some serious transmission damage to your vehicle which will be costly or impossible to repair. But for two-wheel drive vehicles, car dollies are a great option. All-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive vehicles may also be towed, but your drive shaft will need to be disconnected first, and if you're not comfortable doing this yourself you'll need to consult a mechanic. But there are other options that don't require you to disconnected the drive shaft. Read on.

2.) Tow trailers. Both open and enclosed tow trailers are good options for all-wheel / 4-wheel drive vehicles. All wheels will be off the ground, so you don't risk transmission damage while towing your car. And if you opt to use an enclosed trailer, you will have the benefit of added protection from elements as well as increased security for your vehicle. Renting trailers will be more expensive than renting a dolly though, so make sure you really need these features.

3.) Tow bars. (Not to be confused with tow hitches). A tow bar is a system designed to connect the towed vehicle with the towing vehicle (called the coach). The tow bar will connect to both vehicles in such a way as to allow swiveling so that the vehicles may turn independently and make turns on the road. In addition to being connected directly, safeguards such as connection by chains are usually needed as well. Tow bars are probably the least expensive option, but are also less sturdy and secure than the other option. If you're traveling long distances over bumpy roads or at high speeds, you may want to go with one of the previous options.

4.) Towing accessories. Additional accessories are usually needed to tow your car safely and abide by towing regulations. It will at least be necessary to have tow lights (tail lights, brake lights, and turn lights) attached to the rear of the vehicle which is being towed. You may also want to see which other accessories are available, depending on which towing option you choose.

We hope this article has been beneficial and will help you decide on which option to use when towing your car. Remember to always check the safety guidelines included with your equipment and abide by all driving safety rules when towing your vehicle. Safe travels!
