5 Things to Do to Avoid a Speeding Ticket

No one likes a speeding ticket or moving violation. Sometimes if you are not aware of the area, you may drive faster than you want and not realize it. There is nothing more irritating or frustrating than to get a ticket that could have been avoided. By following a few basic guidelines most tickets can be avoided.

If you follow the 5 things below, they may help you avoid getting a ticket.

1. Maintain the speed limit as posted. Driving in cruise control (if you have it on your vehicle) may help you curb the urge to speed up). Sometimes you may become distracted and this will break your concentration from watching the signs and the speedometer. It pays to stay alert.

2. Observe your surroundings. Look for signs, markings and cameras. The main point is to watch out for changing speed limit signs. This is annoying and will get you a ticket very quickly.

3. Don't get distracted.

Interior car distractions such as: cell phones, adjusting the radio or other control, stressed, sleepy, fatigued, eating, smoking, drinking, other passengers or children making loud noises and movements.
Exterior car distractions such as: not keeping your eyes on the road, obstacles on the road and not being observant.

4. Slow down or stop at intersections - in some areas cameras are mounted on poles and takes snap shots of your tag, which results in you getting a ticket in the mail. There are also helicopter patrols that monitor the traffic for speeding.

5. Drive for the other person. Always be alert for the other driver. If you see someone driving recklessly, avoid them or call it in to the state patrol or local police.

If you see someone getting a speeding ticket, ask yourself these questions:

What would I do? Would I panic or stay calm?
How could I have been a better driver to avoid being stopped?
How alert was I? Was I distracted and doing something I should not have been doing?
What did he/she do that I would learn from a similar situation?

By using common sense when driving this may make you a better or conscientious driver. Always being alert of your environment is so important. If you ever get a speeding ticket, you will quickly learn and become more aware of your driving habits. Speeding tickets are very costly. Check with your state laws for changes and find out the cost of a speeding ticket. This factor alone should help you avoid speeding.
