Choosing the Correct Winter Tyres

Pretty much no matter where a person lives in the UK, they are going to be exposed at some point to cold temperatures in the winter. And, of course, along with cold weather comes snow and ice, which can be a nightmare to drive on. Not only are these conditions a pain to drive in, but they are inherently dangerous as well. In fact, winter time is when drivers see the most fatal accidents, and this is mostly due to snow and ice that can sometimes make it near impossible to manoeuvre a car safely. But the best thing a driver can do to ensure that they are driving as safely as possible during these cold, harsh months of winter is to simply make sure that they have the right winter car tyres on their car. It may seem like such a small modification to make, but it really can make all the difference when it comes to driving in the snow and ice.

But buying the right winter car tyres can seem to be too confusing for some people, but this should not deter anybody from getting them. All they need to know are a few basic tips about buying the right tyres for their car. First of all, it is important to know that it is imperative to buy four winter tyres for the car, and not just two (as some people suggest is safe to do). Then, it is important to make sure that the tyres that are being bought are the right size. This is relatively easy to do by simply looking in the car owner's manual, which should have the tire size listed and should be easy to find. If the manual is not available, the tyre size of a car can usually be found online or just in the tyre store easily.

The most important difference between regular tyres and winter tyres is the tread. The tread depth is what makes a tyre safer to drive in the winter through the snow and ice and gives it better traction while doing so. Ideally, a winter tyre will have a tread depth of 6/32 of an inch at the very least. Basically, the greater the tread depth, the better the tyre will handle. So this is something that all tyre buyers should be sure to look for.

There is no denying the fact that winter tyres are an essential thing to have on any car to ensure that driving through snow and ice during harsh winter months is as safe as it can possibly be. And knowing the above listed tips when it comes to shopping for these tyres can ensure that buying them is as stress free as possible.
