The cost of petrol and diesel is or it seems to be constantly rising in the UK. Due to high taxes levied on fuel for motor vehicles and also the increasing cost of oil, (used to make petrol and diesel) the need to try and reduce costs when running your car are needed.

Many people are struggling because they are spending too much money on fuel in their car. Even though they have to travel back and forth to work, you still need to put fuel in your vehicle. Improving the fuel mileage in your car can be quite simple and easy to do yourself as long as you know what to do. When you are trying to get further in your vehicle, you need to consider a few things so that you car runs better and longer. Here are some things that will bring your car back to life and give you the fuel mileage you are looking to get every time you fill your tank.

Maintaining your engine is the first and the most important thing you can do when you are looking to improve your fuel mileage. One thing you can do for your engine is to make sure you are current on an oil change. There is sludge and other deposits that can build up in your engine if you don't change the oil on a regular basis. This will keep all the internal working and moving parts properly lubed and reduce friction internally in the engine. Basically, the engine is not going to work as hard if everything is lubed inside the engine.

Another thing that you can do for your engine is to change the spark plugs and plug wires. Some people don't realize that the spark that ignites the fuel in the cylinders is transferred through the spark plug wires to the spark plug. If there is a break in the wire, you are going to lose the spark and lose power. The total connection has to be there in order to get the most efficiency out of your vehicle. You can also change the distributor cap and rotor in the distributor to make sure you are getting the spark to the proper places to make your engine run better.

One final tip would be to use your cars fan rather than the air conditioning unit. Air con can decrease the fuel efficiency of your car drastically. If you can stick to either using the window or simple fan, then you should be able to save a few pounds a week by doing this.
